Remedy for Chronic Pain and Inflammation – CBD Studies

Help Relieve Chronic Pain and Inflammation with CBD

Studies that have been performed on CBD oil and pain management have shown a great deal of promise. CBD can also offer an alternative for people who have chronic pain and rely on more dangerous, habit-forming medications, such as opioids.

Cannabidiol (CBD) as you know by visiting this site, is a pain relieving cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant that doesn’t induce the psychoactive properties of its THC brethren. Furthermore, CBD’s non-addictive attribute makes it the preferred substance for pain relief over many opioids.

CBD Lessens the Impact of Inflammation on Oxidative Stress

According to another US NLM & NIH study,

“Oxidative stress with reactive oxygen species generation is a key weapon in the arsenal of the immune system for fighting invading pathogens and initiating tissue repair. If excessive or unresolved, however, immune-related oxidative stress can initiate further increasing levels of oxidative stress that cause organ damage and dysfunction.Targeting oxidative stress in various diseases therapeutically has proven more problematic than first anticipated given the complexities and perversity of both the underlying disease and the immune response. However, growing evidence suggests that the endocannabinoid system, which includes the CB and CB G-protein-coupled receptors and their endogenous lipid ligands, may be an area that is ripe for therapeutic exploitation. In this context, the related nonpsychotropic cannabinoid cannabidiol, which may interact with the endocannabinoid system but has actions that are distinct, offers promise as a prototype for anti-inflammatory drug development.

Similar to the above imbalance with cytokines, here we’re seeing that oxidative stress can cause organ damage or dysfunction, but can again be regulated by CBD.

CBD Regulates Cytokine Production in Immune Cells

One of its most significant and commonly used method for pain relief is its potential as an anti-inflammatory agent. As illustrated in a US National Library of Medicine & National Institutes of Health study,

“Cytokines are the signaling proteins synthesized and secreted by immune cells upon stimulation. They are the modulating factors that balance initiation and resolution of inflammation. One of the possible mechanisms of immune control by cannabinoids during inflammation is the dys-regulation of cytokine production by immune cells and disruption of the well-regulated immune response.”

In other words, cytokines regulate the immune system by either initiating or resolving inflammation. If a person experiences chronic inflammation, then it’s because their cytokines are out of balance, which CBD helps to regulate.

CBD Reduces Intestinal Inflammation by Controlling Reactive Gliosis

In a 2011 study, it was found that,

“CBD targets enteric reactive gliosis, counteracts the inflammatory environment induced by LPS in mice and in human colonic cultures derived from UC patients. These actions lead to a reduction of intestinal damage mediated by PPARgamma receptor pathway. Our results therefore indicate that CBD indeed unravels a new therapeutic strategy to treat inflammatory bowel diseases.

Enteric glial cells (EGC) mediate acute and chronic inflammation in the stomach, and when these go out of whack they amplify the response in the Central Nervous System and immune systems. As stated in the study, “CBD is an interesting compound because of its ability to control reactive gliosis in the CNS, without any unwanted psychotropic effects[emphasis added].”

These are only a handful of the studies of what CBD can influence and improve for you when it comes to chronic inflammation issues you may be experiencing. We recommend that you continue to look at credible sources and interpretations of the studies that are being performed on how CBD can assist your efforts of getting your systems back into balance.
