How Much CBD Should I Take? (Serving Size)
Before we get into any discussion here, please know the FDA requires us to treat Hemp based CBD products as a food type of product (a dietary supplement) and not a treatment or cure for any health condition. Further, the FDA does not allow us say how much CBD someone should take because if we recommend a certain amount for a particular condition, then, we are implying CBD can help for that condition.
So, we at WhatDoesCBDOilDoForYou are not able to recommend a particular amount to be taken by someone for a given condition.
Now, with that being said, we have had a website shared with us by a customer who said they found it’s information to be quite helpful for them and loved ones. So, we are merely sharing this site for you to be aware of and are not necessarily endorsing or recommending the information on the page. But, we have had several customers who have read the information on the page and have contacted us back thanking us for sharing it. Again, we hope you find it helpful, but cannot and are not endorsing the information.
The General Guideline: How Much CBD Should I Take?
Expressed in milligrams (mg), CBD dosage largely depends on the conditions and symptoms you’re looking to treat and your unique endocannabinoid system, which is associated with motor control, behavior, emotions, the nervous system and homeostasis. CBD dosage remains an area of active research—more large, high-quality studies are needed in different populations to determine appropriate dosing, efficacy and safety guidelines.
Safe to say, it’s best to start small and gradually increase your dose up to a level that gives you the desired effect. Your starting point might look like half a dropper of oil or one capsule per day. Ideally, navigate this process under the guidance of a qualified physician.
How to Calculate CBD Dosage
When you consume CBD gummies, capsules/softgels or the oil straight from a dropper, dosage is typically expressed per milligram unit. For instance, there may be 50 milligrams of CBD in each individual gummy (Most often it is more like 10 or 15mg per gummy). These products don’t offer much dosage flexibility since you can’t split up gummies or capsules easily.
CBD oil, on the other hand, makes it easier, to begin with a small dose. But calculating CBD oil dosage can be less straightforward. Oils and tinctures tend to come in a dropper bottle and, typically, only the total liquid volume and CBD contents are listed on the label. For example, the label might simply state there’s 1,500 milligrams of CBD in the 30-milliliter bottle.
But what does 1 milliliter look like? This can be a bit tricky, start by figuring out the volume of a single drop in your dropper. Generally speaking there are 12-14 drops in each draw of the dropper and in a 30ml bottle there is approx 17-20 droppers full to draw from.
Here’s where math comes in. Let’s continue with the 30-milliliter bottle with 1,500 milligrams of CBD and 0.05 milliliters in a single drop as our example.
1500mg÷20 full droppers÷14 drops per draw = 5.35 mg of CBD per drop
Next, you can calculate how many drops you need to reach your goal dosage. Let’s say you want to consume 25 milligrams each day.
25mg÷5.35mg/drop = 4 drops
With this CBD oil dosage calculator as a guide, you would find that you needed to consume 4 drops, to reach 25 milligrams. And if you intend to consume 25 milligrams daily, you can expect this particular bottle to serve as a 45-60-day supply.
Some CBD products do some of this math for you and illustrate how many milligrams are in a milliliter, some even marking these points on the dropper so you know exactly what you’re taking.
If you’re still not sure where to start, mydosage.com offers a questionnaire and CBD calculator to help you based on your specific symptoms and usage goals.
